How Negative Emotions Affect Your Organs

Emotions are part of our daily lives. In our Chinese medical terms, we classify these emotions into seven types. These consist of excitement, grief, anxiety, fear, fright, anger and worry.

In accordance of Huang Di Nei Jing (Yellow Emperor Internal Medicine), the root of all diseases are caused by “chi(气)” imbalance.

This disorder of “chi(气)” can be influenced by these seven emotions. In fact, these are naturally experienced in all human beings. But facing these emotions under extremities or a prolonged period of time, causing an imbalance of these “chi(气)” that creates chronic illnesses.
Therefore, when we study the relationship between emotions and our body meridians, we come to understand how meridians and emotions influenced each other.

What are Health Meridians?

Health meridian is a network system that transports “chi(气)” throughout the body. These system influences all living functions in the body, from producing body heat to stimulating all organ functions.
There are basically 12 principal meridians, that consists of:

  • Liver Meridian
  • Lung Meridian
  • Large Intestine Meridian
  • Gastric Meridian
  • Spleen Meridian
  • Heart Meridian
  • Small Intestine Meridian
  • Bladder Meridian
  • Kidney Meridian
  • Pericardium Meridian
  • Tri-Burner Meridian
  • Gall Bladder Meridian

Types of Emotions That Influences Meridians?

Excitement
If one is excessively excited by many stimulations, this leads imbalance of the heart meridian, resulting in the mind become disoriented, which leads to confusion, insomnia and agitation.

Anger
If one is excessively agitated, this will lead to an imbalance of the liver meridian, resulting on more emotions like irritability, frustration and resentment. This in turn, creates more problems to the stomach and spleen meridian. This can result in high blood pressure when these meridians are imbalanced and blocked.
In our modern society today, we have many clients that we have that frequently experiences anger. By balancing the liver, stomach and spleen meridian, we see a drastic improvement in managing both their abnormal blood pressure, blood cholesterol and even mental health.

Anxiety
When one constantly feels anxious about many things, the lung meridian will be imbalanced. This results in chest tightness, shallow breath, chesty cough, even skin related allergies. Eventually it also affects the large intestine meridian, making one feel the lose of appetite, stomach bloating and abdominal discomfort.
We have many clients coming to us with inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative gastritis, enteritis, frequent diarrhea and many other gastric or intestinal conditions. These conditions are attributed mostly due to chronic exposure to experiencing and creating anxiety in their lives. We see improvement by regulating the lung, gastric and large intestine meridian.

Grief
When one faces sadness, he/she inhales and exhales air in a sobbing manner. This rhythmic movement in the lungs causes the weakening of the lung meridian, causing shallow breath, cold sweat, even skin related allergies.
In accordance to AsiaOne, 1 out of 10 adults and even up to 1 in 5 children are affected by eczema worldwide.
Even though there is no cure for these skins related condition, many of our clients that experiences eczema and psoriasis, successfully manage their condition. They are able to minimize their flare ups, after we had regulated both their diet and the lung meridian.

Fear / Fright
Fear and fright are the basic emotions that ensures our survival. But modern society lead us to perceive these emotions very frequently. When one is constantly exposed to such emotion, the kidney and bladder meridian will be first affected. Therefore, it makes sense that some people who are exposed to extreme fright, will lead to involuntary urination. Chronic exposure to such emotion will then affect the heart meridian, resulting in many stress related health complications.

Worry
Worry, refers to excessively thinking, pondering or other mental intellective stimulation. Any of this obsession will cause imbalance in the spleen. This will lead to imbalance of the spleen meridian, resulting in fatigue, tiredness, irritability and lack of focus.
